POTTSTOWN PA – Boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 12 who live in the Spring-Ford Area School District can win a chance in June (2009) to pilot a gravity-propelled race car sponsored by The (Pottstown PA) Mercury newspaper in a contest currently being conducted on its pages.

The Mercury is sponsoring an entry in the 15th Annual Pottstown AMBUCS All-American Soap Box Derby, to be held June 20 (2009; Saturday) at the corner of Wilson and State streets in Pottstown. A coupon being published in the newspaper allows those who meet specific requirement to enter and vie for the chance to race the car. Its random drawing for the winner will be held on the first day of Spring, March 20 (2009; Friday), at 9 a.m. in the newspaper’s Pottstown offices.

In addition to age limits, driver contestants cannot weigh more than 90 pounds, and guardian or parental consent is required. See the derby ad in the newspaper for other details. Contestants can enter as often as they wish. Coupons can be mailed to or dropped off at The Mercury, 24 N. Hanover St., but must be received by no later than Sunday (March 15, 2009).
