Dashingly unemployed.

EXTON PA – Desperate times call for desperate measures. In the case of the Jos. A. Bank men’s clothing stores, they apparently also call for a sales gimmick to help the desperate.

The nationally known store for higher-end men’s clothes made a surprising promotional announcement Monday (March 16, 2009): it said it would refund a customer up to $199 of the price of a suit, bought by April 9, if the customer loses his job anytime between April 16 and July 1. All that’s needed to keep the suit and the cash is a purchase receipt and proof of unemployment.

R. Neal Black, chief executive officer of Jos. A. Bank, told the Pittsburgh Business Times the promotion was akin to “giving all of our customers a bit of unemployment insurance.”

The retailer operates 461 stores in 42 states. Its store closest to Limerick is in the Exton Square Mall, 260 Exton Square Pkwy., 23 miles south.
