POTTSTOWN PA – Pottstown children who participate in the “America Reads” program conducted by tutors from Ursinus College will be treated to a holiday party Dec. 3 (2009; Thursday) from 4-6 p.m. on the college campus, Main Street, Collegeville PA.

Thirty-four Ursinus students divide into teams Mondays through Fridays to travel to Centro Cultural Latinos Unidos Inc. in Pottstown, and to the Christian Network Outreach Church in Norristown PA, where they tutor and mentor 50 younger pupils in after-school programs.

Tutors and students alike will travel to the Ursinus campus to have dinner hosted by the college, decorate cookies, make a gingerbread house, and create Christmas stockings. The readers will take home school supplies, hats and gloves as gifts. The part is made possible by the generosity of numerous donors.  All aspects of the event including buses, food, space and money for the children’s activities are donated.

Audrey Burger and Jasmine Harris, members of the Ursinus Class of 2011, are coordinating this year’s event.
