COLLEGEVILLE PA – Now that its acquisition of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals is complete, Pfizer Inc. began sending layoff notices Monday (Jan. 11, 2010) to about 450 employees at Wyeth’s former Collegeville PA headquarters, at the intersection of U.S. Route 422 and PA Route 29, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported.

The last day for workers whose jobs are being eliminated there is March 12.

An additional 230 jobs will be cut at former Wyeth offices in Great Valley, Chester County. It will shut down by mid-year, according to the Journal. The remaining 670 employees in Great Valley will be transferred to the Collegeville site, Pfizer spokeswoman Gwen Fisher said.

At the time of Wyeth’s purchase, Pfizer announced it planned to cut the combined work force worldwide by about 15 percent, or more than 19,000 jobs.
