LIMERICK PA – The “Big Bark Birthday Bash,” the annual pets-and-their-owners Bark For Life fund-raising event that is the spring predecessor to the Pottstown Area Relay For Life in June, found a larger home and even greater success Saturday (April 17, 2010) in Limerick Community Park. Thousands of people and hundreds of animals turned out to raise funds for cancer research and treatment.

Participating pets walked with their owners for just a mile on a path at the park, Swamp Pike and Ziegler Road, Limerick PA, collecting money with every step. The park gave the event growing room it has needed since its start.

For some four-legged fund-raisers, puddles that formed in the park after Friday's rain proved to be a tempting attraction for play and frolic.

Proud owners were more than happy to show off their best friends, who were the stars of Saturday's show.

Merchants filled a large pet community area inside the park, and adjacent to the fund-raiser's walking path. Visitors found a variety of things to buy for their pets. Many sellers returned a portion of the proceeds to the event.

Some dogs Saturday were patient in waiting for their turn to line up and walk a mile-long path to raise money in the fight against cancer.

On some teams, dogs and owners arrived dressed alike for the occasion.

Registration lines moved quickly, and so Bark For Life participants had time to get to know one another before the walk got under way.
