LIMERICK PA – About 50 teens between the ages of 11 and 14 took advantage last week of the second annual Teen Carnival, sponsored by the Limerick (PA) Parks and Recreation Department in Veterans’ Park, behind the township municipal building, 646 W. Ridge Pike, Limerick PA. Department Director Karen Hegedus said the number of participants exceeded both her expectations and last year’s attendance, and that all involved seemed to have a good time.

The evening carnival, which ran Wednesday (July 21, 2010) from 6-9 p.m. and cost $10 per person, included a disc jockey playing current hits, and a variety of games that offered prizes to winners and runners-up alike. The hit of the night, though, were activities on a Nintendo Wii video game console and large flat-screen television, both of which were loaned for the occasion by the Best Buy electronics retail chain.

Limerick still has a full month of programming remaining this summer for adults, teens and young children too, Hegedus said. Its activities-to-come, all scheduled in Limerick Community Park, Swamp Pike and Ziegler Road, include:

  • Adult concerts on Aug. 1 and 22;
  • Ice cream sundaes, accompanied by the Cool Beans Band for family entertainment, Aug. 4;
  • A teen band showcase, featuring up to six youth bands from the Limerick area, Aug. 10
  • Movies Under The Stars, also in Community Park, Sept. 5;
  • The township’s annual Community Day, Sept. 25; and
  • A variety of summer and sports camps, most of which last a week or less, the last of which ends Aug. 27.
